The Past, Present and Future of Hip Arthroplasty

The 27th of May saw Tim Board, OrthTeam consultant, attend the Writhington Hip Arthroplasty Updates Meeting. Here, he acted as Co-chairman for the event, which attracted professionals from all over the country that held multiple talks along with chairing sessions and debates.

The day was led by renowned professionals Nikhil Shah and Henry Wynn Jones, and was split in to the following four sessions:

Session 1: Dysplasia – Complex Reconstruction in the Young Adult

Session 2: Acetabular Defects at Revision

Session 3: Femoral Defects at Revision

Session 4: Revision for Infection

Case based debates were held at the end of each session, and areas such as “What the Registries tell us about revision”, “Custom prosthesis” and “Structural head grafting” were covered – with ample time spared for coffee and lunch too.

The aim to cut down on hip revision failure and hip revision surgery complications in the near future is progressing constantly with events like this, and the recent rise in hip surgery means that this research is more relevant than ever. On the subject of events, it was only recently that Tim Board was in France for both the Revision Hip Masterclass and the 30th anniversary of the Corail Hip Replacement Stem, which you can read about here.
