Discussing the Future of Hip Revision and Surgery

Taking place in Lyon, France, the DePuy Synthes Institute recently held a Revision Hip Masterclass on the 25th of May. During this international meeting, Tim Board, one of our consultants, acted as the Chairman for the event which attracted thirty delegates from eight countries around the world.

The masterclass was led by an expert global faculty and was comprised of debates, quick-fire presentations and advanced round table case discussions making up four sessions. These four sessions covered topics such as “Managing Acetabular Bone Loss”, “Managing Periprosthetic Fractures” and “Key Issues in Revision” in great detail, by some of the best minds in the industry when it comes to hip revision and surgery.

They went on to provide further expert opinions on planning, approach and potential solutions for advancements in hip revision surgery.

Shortly after on May 26th, Tim Board was once again in the French city of Lyon, where he was a member of the International Faculty which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Corail Hip Replacement Stem.

This event attracted 350 delegates from over 30 countries, and Adrian Smith had this to say before the event:

“In 2016, the CORAIL stem will have achieved 30 years of clinical usage globally. The CORAIL at 30 Years Hip Symposium will recognise the ongoing clinical success, worldwide growth and will focus on the needs of the next generation of CORAIL users.”

At the event, the past, present and future of the THA were examined - discussing in detail the need to adapt to changing patient demands. Special attention was given to the forgiving nature of the system and the Intra-operative flexibility (primary, complex primary, FNOF and conservative revision), along with the proven clinical success of them.

Once again, some of the smartest people in their respective industries were gathered, and delegates were able to witness them hold live surgeries and scientific presentations, along with mini debates and clinical case discussions.

The twelve sessions of the event covered topics ranging from “Managing the patients of tomorrow” and “The Sporting patient”, to “PINNACLE – Insights after 6,000+ PINNACLE Implantations” and “France: via a posterior approach”.
