Amir Khan Treated By OrthTeam's John Leach
John Leach, Consultant Neurosurgeon at OrthTeam recently treated professional boxer and two-time former world champion Amir Kahn, at Manchester Institute of Health and Performance's new Concussion Clinic.
The Concussion Clinic brings together specialists from Neurosurgery and Sports Medicine to provide best-practice assessment and treatment, and also strives to inform the future of concussion management through research.
Amir was seen by the multi-disciplinary team at The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance on his return from Las Vegas, following a knockout during his fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
Mr John Leach, Consultant Neurosurgeon at The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance said: “We are delighted to have such a high profile athlete visit us for assessment.
“We’ve seen Amir twice now, the first time when he returned to England directly after his fight, and most recently to check his progress. The good news is that Amir is on track to return to the ring.”
Amir Khan commented: “My experience of The Concussion Clinic at The Manchester Institute of Health & Performance has been first-class.
“Punches to the head and falls are inevitable in boxing, so it’s important to get checked out if concussion is suspected. I’m fortunate to have been seen by the leading consultants in the field; Mr Leach, Mr Patel and Dr Rogers, and have managed to escape injury-free which means that I’ve still got a good few years left in me yet!”
