Mike is a consultant Foot & Ankle surgeon, consulting at BMI The Alexandra Hospital & John Charnley Wing, Wrightington Hospital.
Mike Karski joined Wrightington Hospital as a Foot & Ankle Consultant in 2009. He treats a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions, with his surgical practice ranging from toe surgery to ankle replacement. He has a special interest in sports injuries of the foot and ankle, and is honorary orthopaedic surgeon to Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
Mike’s interest in ankle replacement surgery has led to him being involved in a nationally funded multi-centre randomised controlled clinical trial of ankle replacement versus ankle arthrodesis and in a clinical research project at Wrightington regarding outcome measures; his previous research in this area was published in the British Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He also uses an enhanced recovery protocol (earlier mobilisation and discharge) for people having ankle replacement surgery.
Mike is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Salford University and Edgehill University, and Clinical Supervisor to a Wrightington Fellow participating in the prestigious BOA Orthopaedic Clinical Leadership Programme.
Mike qualified from Manchester University in 1999 and underwent his surgical training in the North West of England. He completed his specialist training with a foot and ankle fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, and was awarded a BOFAS travelling fellowship to visit a foot and ankle unit in Baltimore.
