Barnes Morgan is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in the care of patients with disorders of the shoulder and the elbow. In addition to his surgical qualifications, Barnes has a BSc in Neuroscience and an MSc in Trauma Surgery.
His special interests include arthroscopic surgery for soft tissue injuries and joint replacement surgery for shoulder & elbow arthritis.
Barnes has a strong interest in education and teaches on both University and departmental training programmes.
Barnes has a strong interest in training. He teaches on both Rheumatology and Orthopaedic MSc courses and holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at Salford University. He also organises the departmental teaching programme for junior doctors at Stepping Hill Hospital and supervises medical students on placement.
His research interests include assessment of PRP versus surgery, in the treatment of tennis elbow.
His service development work includes PROMs assessment of surgical outcomes from shoulder arthroplasty, TransTend partial thickness rotator cuff repair and arthroscopic suprascapular nerve ablation. He is also currently auditing length of inpatient stay after shoulder arthroplasty, prior to implementation of an accelerated rehabilitation programme.
Professional memberships include the British Orthopaedic Association & the British Elbow and Shoulder Society
Barnes qualified from the University of London in 2001.
He developed his clinical expertise whilst holding UK shoulder fellowship posts at Stepping Hill Hospital under the supervision of Mr Matt Ravenscroft and Mr Clive Warren-Smith, followed by an upper limb fellowship at the internationally renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit.
In addition to his surgical qualifications, he has a BSc in Neuroscience and an MSc in Trauma Surgery.
